in other members of the sunday brain trust, perry bacon, also political editor, and senior editor of the review and colu columnist to bloomberg review. perry, let me start with you, with president obama winning a second term, is there a window now, window of opportunity, to close gitmo and squash some of the dissatisfaction from the left? >> there is a window. let me disagree with ari slightly here. there was a vote in the senate on president obama's plan to close gitmo in 2009, and it failed 90 to 6. 90 to 6 very resoundingly. the republicans all opposed it, but 48 of the 54 democrats opposed it too. so the white house giving up at that point was not surprising to me. it's not clear it's the political will on capitol hill to close gitmo, the problem being once you close gitmo, the detainees have to go to prisons in the united states. every senator is basically like, not my district, not my state. i'm not sure until there's a real issue from the senate and the house that you can really move this. the president tried pretty hard, i thought, and is really, like, a loss 90-6 is hard

, he invited admiral roughhead and secretary perry into the briefing we had a discussion about the whole program at fleet week. we talked about all the public events that went on but we also talked a lot and concentrated a lot on the senior leadership program and what the rest of disaster preparedness was about. in that conversation we started talking about the internationals a special agent of fleet week. secretary perry actually suggested that we extend invitations to people from around the world that they might benefit from the discussions that we're having. admiral roughhead suggested that his friends from chile had an experience down in their part of the world with an earthquake and thought it would be a good idea for us to hear about the operations that the chilean navy had undertaken for helping out their citizens. we have a panel here today, we actually have two panels we're going to roll through. one is stories from the field, if you will, people's experiences in working in international environments to help promote humanitarian missions. fleet week got involved with a hum

about us. about a year ago i met the actor and director tyler perry. tyler a couple years ago bought delta airlines headquarters in atlanta and needed to some its tv shows and movies. one of the amazing things about tyler and his story is a 1998 tyler was homeless and tyler perry searcy changed his story. i have kind of an unusual story myself. i was born in a small river town on the hudson, newburgh new york. when i was growing up, look magazine called it the all-american city and at that time we had kind of an inner-city, but then we had a lot of harm kids and there was an air force base of the schools will follow the inner-city and harm can and kids who'd been around the world. it was an interesting place to grow up. earlier on my father grew up in the newburgh poorhouse. it was called the poggi. my father's mother was a charwoman at the poorhouse come which meant she cleaned the bathrooms or the other poor people and they got a room there. so that was our background and that's why feel i should be the next president of the united states.
